Which route to choose: Configured or SaaS?

When organizations are implementing a new software application whether it is a configured application or purchased through software as a service (SaaS) companies are faced with many dilemmas. How much do we want to spend? Will this system allow us to better our bottom line? Will we need to purchase more hardware?

ERP Software

Manufacturing ERP Software. Leverage the power of browser based thin client technology.

Unfortunately these answers do not always come as easy as companies would like. For instance, the answer to how much do we want to spend depends greatly on the type of software a company would like to implement. Purchasing a system which is out of the box or pulled from the shelf is going to cost significantly less than the software which is purchased as a fully customized application.

So which route should an organization take? Again, this also will depend on the amount of customization the company is looking for and the amount they are willing to spend. With a configured system the organization will have the software built to their needs and will have the functionality that only they require instead of having many screens which are not sufficient for their organization. If the cost of your software application is a critical selling point this may not be the option which you will want to go with. However, keep in mind that this software will grow with your company and their needs.

Purchasing a SaaS solution is a great option if your company is interested in testing out a software company before actually purchasing a solution from them. While this may not be an option for your company this form of application is a great way to save the bottom line. Generally SaaS modules are not configured to the needs of the client. Some software providers will allow their clients to suggest changes which can be implemented into the software if it is a change which may take place throughout the entire industry.
